Weltparlament der Religionen - Barcelona 2004

Ein sehr persoenlicher Bericht von Claudia Balzereit

Nach 17 Jahren habe ich zum ersten Mal wieder spanischen Boden unter den Fuessen.

Meine Kenntnisse ueber Land und Leute waren brachgelegen, waehrend ich in den vergangenen Jahren neuen Stroemungen gefolgt war.

Heute kehre ich als eine Vertreterin der Deutschen Muslimliga Bonn und als Mitglied der United Religious Initiative nach Spanien zurueck. Auf dem weitraeumigen Gelaende des Forums erwartet mich eine Woche inmitten religioeser Menschen aus allen Voelkern und Laendern.

Das Programm ist gigantisch: taeglich ueber 60 Vortraege, Filme, musikalische und theatralische Darbietungen, zeremonielle Vorfuehrungen, Gebets- und Meditationsangebote sowie ca. 80 Ausstellungs- und Verkaufsstaende. In einem feierlichen Gelage finden alle Teilnehmer bei den Sikhs Nahrung.

Alle Weltreligionen, spirituelle und indigene Gemeinschaften stellen sich vielfaeltig und thematisch allumfassend vor: es geht um die Schaffung einer besseren Welt, Frieden und globale Gerechtigkeit, Gott, Mystik und kosmische Harmonie, um aktuelle ethische Themen und vieles mehr. ueberall ist ein gemeinsamer Geist atmosphaerisch spuerbar, oft auch aeusserlich sichtbar an typischer und farbenfroher Kleidung vieler Teilnehmer.

Mir scheint, dass ich hier das erlebe, worueber es in einem Koranvers heisst: "Und wenn Allah gewollt haette, haette Er euch zu einer einzigen Gemeinde gemacht. Er wollte euch aber in alledem, was Er euch gegeben hat, auf die Probe stellen. Darum sollt ihr um die guten Dinge wetteifern."( Sura5:48) So scheinen bei diesem grossen Treffen des Weltparlaments der Religionen alle Anwesenden als gleichgesinnte Rivalen miteinander zu wetteifern.

Am Stand und bei Meetings der URI erlebe ich die Vereinigung aller Religionen im Bemuehen um Frieden und Gerechtigkeit. ueber die ganze Welt hinweg ist die URI technisch vernetzt. Mir erscheint dieses in der Welt unbeachtete Wirken der URI wie eine unsichtbare Kraft, die aus dem Verborgenen auf den Verlauf der Welt und die Zukunft unseres Planeten Einfluss nimmt. Ihre Mitglieder setzen sich, je nach ihrem Glauben, z.B. als Diener Gottes fuer die Bewahrung der Schoepfung ein. Vielleicht besteht hier ein Zusammenhang zu der im Koran so oft postulierten unsichtbaren, verborgenen Welt, an die zu glauben er immer wieder ermahnt, wie z.B. gleich in der zweiten Sure, wo sich der Koran als eine Rechtleitung an "die Gottesfuerchtigen, die an das Verborgene glauben" (2;3) wendet.

Bei einem internen Treffen des Weltrates der Muslime fuer interreligioesen Dialog beklemmen Schilderungen einzelner Mitglieder, so wie mich an einem anderen Tag das lebendige Miteinander und zwanglose Modalitaeten aufheitern.

So mancher Orts finde ich nun Gelegenheit, meine spanischen Sprachkenntnisse einzusetzen, fuer die ich eingeladen war, an dieser Tagung teilzunehmen. Dafuer moechte ich der URI danken und insbesondere sei an dieser Stelle der Stadt Barcelona dafuer gedankt, dass sie dieses Festival in diesen Ausmassen ueberhaupt moeglich gemacht hat.

Parliament of The World Religions - Barcelona 2004

I come to Barcelona as a member of the German Muslim League Bonn, which is part of the United Religious Initiative.

On the huge ground of the Forum, a week among 7000 religious people of all nations and cultures lies ahead of me. From all great world religions, indigenous and spiritual communities, they meet in order to engage in interreligious encounter.

The program is gigantic: every day there are more than 60 lectures, discussions about current ethical issues, mystical presentations, the opportunity of prayers and meditation, some video films, musical performances and so on. In the large hall are built up more than 80 exhibition and sale booths.

In a big tent at the seashore the sikhs celebrate their meals twice a day with thousands of us.

The remarkable pluralism of the world religions has its roots perhaps for what is written in the Holy Qur´an. Here it is said:

"If Allah had so willed, He would have made you a single people, but (His plan is) to test you in what He hath given to you; so strive as in a race in all virtues. The goal of you all is to Allah" (5;48).

In the struggle for peace and justice I already experience the United Religious Initiative as a multireligious unit.

All over the world the URI is technically connected in global network. In my perception the URI`s activities - although they are not recognized in the real world - are like an invisible power, coming from a hidden world and trying to influence the development of the world and the future of our planet. Their members act according to their belief for example as servants of god in order to preserve creation.

Maybe that here can be noticed a relation to the often postulated hidden and unseen world in the Qurán in which to believe He always admonishes. So already in the second sura the Qur´an turns as a sure guidance to those who fear Allah and who believe in the Unseen (cf. 2;3).

Very touched I follow the lifely meetings of the World Council of Muslims for Interfaith Relations with members from all over the world.

I am very grateful to the URI for having had the opportunity of coming back to Spain in fullfilment of my personal religious aspirations and I liked very much to apply my knowledge of languages several times in this week.

Finally it has to be mentioned the enormous effort of the city of Barcelona for having made possible this interfaith encounter in such an enormous extend.
